LG V30 is the latest V series flagship and arrived with Android Nougat. Recently in South Korea, V30 received the Android 8.0 and in the US, beta testing has started. The South Korean tech giant announced that V30 and G6 flagships are included in the “Android Enterprise Recommended” program which is led by Google and will receive the Android 8.1 update directly.

So in a few months, LG G6 and V30 flagships will receive the latest flavour of Android. Till now only Google Pixel, Pixel 2, Nexus 5X and 6P, Essential Phone devices receive the Android 8.1 update.

If we look at rollout schedule, there is confirmed rollout dates of the update. But we expect that the rollout will take place most likely in April or May 2018. The confirmed rollout dates of the Android 8.1 Oreo update for V30 and G6 will be revealed in coming days.

Android 8.1 Exclusive features

The Android Oreo update contains some bugs like UI freeze, Bluetooth issues, Picture in Picture issues and automatic Mobile data Disable. Some users also reported that their devices are sucking up Mobile Data when Wi-Fi is turned on. Some Pixel users also reported Battery drain and random reboot issues. So the Search giant may address these issues in the forthcoming update. Some Google executives also say that Mobile data bug and Bluetooth issues will be fixed through the next update. So we hope that these bugs are fixed in the Android 8.1 Oreo update.

The Android 8.1 Consumer version arrived with exciting features like Neural Network API, Bluetooth battery levels, Redesigned power menu, Buttery smooth scrolling and many more.

New Storage Management

The Android 8.1 update will free up some storage space due to the reduction in size of inactive apps. The features by clearing the Dalvik compilor cache of inactive apps. As we know, Android considers recently unused apps as inactive after certain time.

Android 8.1 apps

LG V30 users don’t have to do anything after updating to Android 8.1, the system itself automatically optimizes inactive apps and will increase the free space. Most likely, the performance of Android also improves due to the increase in free space and reduction of size of inactive apps. Full details about the feature will be revealed in coming days.

Refined Power Menu

In the upcoming iteration of Android, Google refined the position of power menu. The new power menu design already arrived with Pixel 2 series launched with Android 8.0 Oreo on-board. Now with Android 8.1, the new power menu design is coming to LG V30 devices. Google shifted the power menu to the right edge of the screen from the centre of the screen.

The user interface of the power menu also improved and dark mode for the menu also added. So in the day time, powermenu appears in day theme, while in night time the menu appears in night theme to reduce the eye strain.

Google included multiple security bug fixes in the update. Two security patches dated on 5th and 1st December which contain tens of security bug fixes are included in Android 8.1.

Where are the Bluetooth Battery levels

In Android 8.1 update, Google brings the Bluetooth battery levels feature which appears in the Quick Settings toggles besides the Bluetooth icon. So LG G6 anf V30 users just swipe down on the screen to check their Bluetooth battery levels. Originally, Pixel 2 was the phone to sport the Bluetooth battery levels feature, now with Android 8.1, it will come to all other eligbile android devices.

Buttery smooth scrolling

One of the awesome features arrived with the Android 8.1 Oreo update. In Android 8.1, Google implemented an additional frame buffer to increase smoothness of systemwide scrolling. Till now only iOS features smooth scrolling with nary frame drop rate, now it comes to Android through the latest update.

Buttery smooth scrolling comes at the cost of slight decrease in performance, but the trade-off acceptable to most users. Probably the Search giant may improve the responsiveness and smooth scrolling further in future updates.

We will update this post soon with more details about the Android 8.1 update for LG V30 and G6.
