HTC U12 Release Date, Features, Specs and Price
The HTC U12 is the successor of U11 and the next flagship from HTC. HTC unveiled the U11 in May and U11 hit the shelves in June 2017. So the forthcoming flagship from the Taiwanese tech giant may arrive in March 2018.
With the HTC U11 flagship, HTC introduced the Edge sense feature. Now with U12, HTC is going to introduce the full Display without much bezels like Samsung’s Infinity Display, according to some rumours. HTC says that the next year’s flagship is under development, despite the recent sale of some part of R&D division to Google. Some rumours claim that after HTC U12, the Taiwanese tech giant will focus only mid-range and entry level devices. So U12 might be the last flagship from HTC.
HTC U12 Display
HTC unveiled U11 with 5.5 Super LCD5 Display with 2K resolution. So the successor of HTC U11 may come with 6 inch Display with QHD+ resolution. The Display of U12 might be HDR10 ready and Dolby vision compliant. HTC may revamp the design to reduce bezel size and body size. Full details about the new display tech from HTC will be revealed in coming days. The Corning Gorilla Glass 5 may act as Display protection for U12.
HTC U11 and U11+ are powered by Snapdragon 835 chipset contain Eight cores built on 10nm LPE process. Due to the optimizations made by HTC, in synthetic benchmark tests as well as in real world scenarios both flagships are doing great.

The upcoming flagship from HTC should be powered by Snapdragon 845 Mobile platform, according to leaksters. The SD845 Mobile Platfrom is yet to announced, but in a few days the official event of SD 845 will take place, according to Gizmochina.
A Latest leak from Wccftech suggest that Snapdragon 845 which will power HTC U12 is going to be built on 10nm FinFET LPE process which the same process, SD835 has built. The same leak claims that Exynos 9810 chipset which powers the Galaxy S9, a competitor of U12, will be built on 10nm LPP(Low Power Plus) process which is very effecient than LPE (Low Power Early) process.

Another leak through GSMarena claims that the next Snapdragon chipset will arrive with Four 3rd gen Kryo cores based on Cortex A-75 cores and four Cortex A-53 cores for power efficiency. The new Cortex A-75 cores are made using ARM’s DynamIQ technology which improves scalability and responsiveness. According to Gizmochina, Cortex A-75 cores can be clocked at 3 Ghz, 200Mhz higher than A-73 cores.
So it seems that HTC U12 will perform much better than its predecessor in all aspects. Due to power efficient Cortex A53 cores, battery drain will also kept under check. More details about SD845 SoC will be revealed in coming days.
Snapdragon 845 may come with Qualcomm’s latest X20 LTE modem. The X20 modem offers the support for Cat. 18 download speeds upto 1.2 Gbps and Cat. 13 upload speeds upto 150 Mbps. Due to the 10nm process, the X20 LTE modem utilizes battery juice very efficiently. The Qualcomm’s X20 modem also supports Dual SIM Dual VoLTE feature, HD, Ultra HD Voice features.
The HTC U11 flagship arrived in 4GB Ram and 6GB Ram variants. The next flagship from the Taiwanese tech giant probably come in 6GB and 8GB Ram variants. The 6GB Ram HTC U12 may contain 64GB storage and the 8GB Ram variant might be available in 128GB and 256GB storage options. Full details about the HTC 2018 flagship will be revealed in coming days.
HTC U12 Camera
HTC developed the ultrapixel technology to provide solid low-light performance and improve processing speeds. But in HTC 10 and its predecessors, we have seen the pictures shot with overexposure. Albeit many improvements made to the Primary Camera, the HTC U11 flagship still struggles while shooting in low-light. The Primary Camera of U11 lags while taking shots in low-light environment despite of great performance in good-light environment. So HTC has to do a good job to catch up with other tech giants in the Camera department.
Recently, Samsung unveiled ISOCell Camera Sensors with dual pixel tech and tetracell technologies and Google used single Sensor with dual Pixel tech to create in-depth effect in Google Pixel. Apple uses dual Camera sensor tech to create in-depth effect in iPhone 8 and 8 Plus flagships.

So HTC has to develop much advanced Camera tech to beat its compititors. Thus, we may see Dual Camera Sensors with ultra pixel tech and LED flash on the rear side of HTC U12. The front Camera of U12 probably feature 12MP sensor with Optical Image Stabilization and improved aperture size for better low-light performance.
HTC U12 Battery
Previously, HTC U11 is powered by Non-removable Li-Ion 3000 mAh battery. So this time, U12 may come with 3500 mAh Battery to power up the massive display for a long time. The Battery will support Quick Charge feature.
Quick Charge 4+
HTC provides Quick Charge compatible charger along with its flagships. HTC 10 was arrived Quick Charge 3.0 and the supported charger too. The HTC U11 flagship was expected to come with Quick Charge 4.0, but HTC didn’t enable it and supplied only Quick Charge 3.0 compatible charger. Qualcomm unveiled the Quick Charge 4.0 along with Snapdragon 835 and later enhanced it to Quick Charge 4+. So upcoming flagship from HTC will come with the Quick Charge 4+ support.
According to Qualcomm, QC 4+ is much more energy efficient and also works more intelligently. The chip maker said that QC4+ is 30% more efficient and 15% faster than QC4 while Quick Charge 4 is 30% more efficient and 20% faster than its predecessor. So overall, the latest iteration of QC is about 50% more energy efficient and 30% faster than QC3.0. Qualcomm claims that the Quick Charge can charge upto 50% in about 5 mins. So it seems that HTC U12 is going to be the fastest charging HTC flagship.
Newly unveiled Quick Charge version not only speeds up charging, but also makes the device cool while charging. According to Qualcomm, the Quick Charge 4+ charges the devices at temperatures 5°C cooler than its predecessor. So the battery life will be improved and energy dissipation through heat also be reduced.

Android 8.1 Oreo
HTC U11 was launched with Android 7.1 Nougat and is going to receive Android 8.0 Oreo soon. As Google announced that the Android 8.1 update is coming in a few weeks, the HTC U12 might run on Android 8.1 straight from the Box.
The Notification channels, improved battery efficiency through background limits and pictur in picture mode are some of the exciting features of Android Oreo. The latest flavour of Android also brings security features like Google Play Protect and many more under-hood bug fixes. There is no ‘Unknown Sources’ setting in Android Oreo to prevent threats from 3rd Party apps. HTC may polish the OS with Sense UI for HTC U12.
HTC U12 Release Date
The Taiwanese tech giant launched the HTC U11 flagship in May and later released U11 Plus in November with many improvements and bigger screen. Most likely, HTC will announce the HTC U12 flagship in April or May 2018 just like its predecessors. So the next flagship from the Taiwanese tech giant may hit the shelves in June or July 2018. The confirmed release dates of U12 for different regions will be revealed soon.
HTC U12 Price
The unlocked HTC U11 variant is currently available for $649 through the official website. So the successor of U11 may arrive with the price tag of about $700. The price of the next HTC flagship may vary according to carriers and their special contracts.

Update on 6/12/2017 :
According to Android Finest, HTC U12 might come with a bezelless design like iPhone X and Essential Phone with almost no side bezels and also top and bottom bezels. The latest render of the U12 is showing the revamped design with no bezels and notch like Essential Phone. The source also suggests that HTC U12 might sport 4K resolution which is a big advantage over the competitors like Galaxy S9 and LG G7.
The render also shows the read side of the device with Dual Camera sensors and Dual LED flash and glass design. So it seems that the HTC’s 2018 flagship will come with glass design and very thin bezels. According to Source, the U12 flagship won’t feature a headphone jack which is disappointing for some users. But HTC may supply a USB Type-C to headphone jack adapter which comes handy. As these are still rumours and nothing has confirmed officially, we should take them with a big pinch of salt.
