Android 7.0 Nougat for LG G4 and V10 Release Date, Features

LG G4 was released in April 2015 with inbuilt Android 5.1.1 Lollipop. Last year, G4 received the Marshmallow update. LG V10 was released in October 2015 with inbuilt Android 5.1.1 and later upgraded to Android Marshmallow. Google released the Android Nougat version which is the Seventh major revision of Android in August, 2016. The Android 7.0 Nougat update is now on the way to eligible LG flagship devices. Already G5 flagship received Android Nougat update.

Earlier, LG announced that Marshmallow is the last android upgrade for G4 and V10 devices. But recently at MWC 2017, the South Korean tech giant announced that it will update both G4 and V10 to Nougat.

1. Multiwindow support

Earlier, at the time of Android Marshmallow, there are many rumours about the multiwindow feature in the next android update. The rumours have confirmed when Google released the preview version of Nougat. Now, the Android 7.0 Nougat comes with fully operational multiwindow feature.

The Multiwindow function of Android 7.0 lets the users to use two apps side by side just like Windows Desktop. Currently, not all apps are supporting the multiwindow but some productivity apps are supporting it. To use multiwindow feature in Android Nougat, user just longpress the square soft key. Then the screen will split off in the middle. The second part of the screen will show a carousel of all recently used apps. Once, user clicks the required app in the carousel, it fills the second part of the screen.

2. New Emojis

Emojis are becoming popular day by day. Google released many new emojis with Android Nougat. With old emojis,
new emojis of nougat made the android UI more userfriendly. New emojis include things like a salamander, some French bread, a kiwi fruit, a peanut and a pitch black heart. The search giant may also release new emojis in subsequent updates.

3. Clear All Button

Android users have waited for a long time for the Clear All button in the recent apps screen. The South Korean tech giant, Samsung has used the clear all button in all its major devices now. But stock android lack it until Nougat update. Android 7.0 features a fully functional Clear all button in recent apps screen. By clicking the Clear All button in the recent apps screen, user can easily flush recently opened apps.

4. Daydream

Daydream is one of the exciting new features of Android Nougat. But to use daydream feature properly, supported smart phones have to be released. Currently only, Pixel Phones from Google and Moto Z from Lenovo are the only devices which are supporting daydream function. Daydream-ready smartphones can be placed in the front compartment of the Daydream View and viewed in VR headset through the Daydream View’s two lenses. The view has improved over previous VR view. Day dream headsets are also coming with wireless controllers. More details of day dream feature will be revealed in coming days.

5. New Quick Setting Toggles

Google has been improving quick setting toggles in each major android revision. Now the Android Nougat comes fully revamped quick setting toggles. Once, the user drop down the quick setting toggles, six settings icons will appear on the top ot the screen. Tap on the icon to view the current status. Long tap will give more options for the setting. User can also see more quick setting tiles by swiping right or left on quick settings screen.

6. Improved Doze Mode

Google introduced the Battery Saver feature in Android Lollipop which saves a lot of battery juice. In Android 6.0 Marshmallow, the Search Giant introduced Doze mode which saves battery when the device is stationary. In Android 7.0 Nougat, Google improved Doze Mode much better than Marshmallow. In Nougat, Doze mode works when the screen is off and either device is in motion or stationary. So Doze Mode saves much battery juice than Marshmallow. Doze mode works by shutting down network access, postponing syncs when the screen is off. When the screen is off for a long time, device slips into a state of deep hibernation.

7. Data Saver

Android Nougat brought a new Data saving feature. When user enables Data saver in the Settings Menu, it reduces background data syncs of apps when the cellular data is on. It completely blocks data sync when the screen of device is off. So it saves a lot of Cellular data. User can also whitelist some apps like whatsapp. On white listed apps, data saver don’t work and their background sync is usual.

8. New Settings Menu

In Android Nougat, Google completely revamped the Settings menu. The new Settings menu offers new look and also more functions. It contains an additional navigation drawer that can accessed swiping from the left edge of the screen. There is new suggestions panel also at the top of the Settings Menu. As Material design is present as usual in the Setting Menu, it offers the same smooth look as in previous android version. Some key system settings appear below their listing. For example, data usage will be displayed below the data usage listing.

9. Display calibration

Previously in Nexus 6P, Google introduced some manual diaplay color calibration settings. Now Android 7.0 Nougat update also contains Manual display calibration options. User can find it by System UI tuner>Color Appearance > Calibrate Display. So that user can set colour temperature warmer or cooler by manually calibrating display.

10. Improved File Explorer

Google introduced File Explorer feature in Android Marshmallow but it is only useful for basic tasks and not powerful. Now in Android Nougat, the File Explorer feature much improved and Google fixed many bugs. With new Nougat File Explorer, user can move, rename files and also open multiple explorer tabs. It is also working much faster than the previous one.

11. Call Blocking

Google integrated the Call Blocking feature into Nougat OS and it is working perfectly well. With this useful feature, user can easily block and even messages from any phone number. The blocked numbers also will be synchronized to user’s Google account and stored. So even user factory reset the phone, the call blocking data can be restored. Other messengers can also access the call blocking data and block the chats or messages.

12. New Chrome Tabs

The new Chrome Browser in Nougat came with new tabs function. So user can view two chrome tab windows on the screen same time just like Desktop. First half of the screen shows one Chrome window and second half shows another Window. To access new Chrome tabs function, user have to press the square soft button long time while in the chrome app. Then the option named “Move to Other Window” will appear in the menu. This is one of the most useful features of Android Nougat.

13. No More Optimizing Apps Screen

Usually after installing any update android shows a screen named as “Optimizing Apps” after booting. It takes a few minutes and then the device will be ready to use. In Android Nougat, due to a quick path to app installations, the Optimization of apps take no more than a few seconds. So the Optimizing Apps screen will never annoy android users after installing a OTA update.

14. Faster App Installs

In recent android revisions like Marshmallow, Google reduced app install time. In Android Nougat, due to new ART’s JIT compiler, app installs will be much faster than previous android versions. According to Google, the apps which take few minutes to install in Marshmallow, now take only a few seconds in Nougat. So users have to wait much less time to install apps in Android 7.0.

15. Low Ram Usage

Previously, the Search Giant started project Svelte with Kitkat to run android smoothly even in low ram devices. In Android Nougat this feature has improved much. So Android Nougat reduces Ram usage by apps to ensure smooth running in low-end devices.

16. System UI Tuner

Actually this is a hidden feature in Android Nougat and can be enabled by simple steps. First, swipe down on the screen to open quick settings toggles. Around the right top corner of screen, Settings icon (Looks like Gear) appears. By tapping on the Settings icon for 10 seconds, users can enable System UI Tuner. The System UI Tuner feature allows userto change little settings in the System UI, Do Not Disturb, Status bar etc. But this feature works on experimental basis only in Nougat.

According to latest reports, unlocked LG G4 devices in the US and Korea may receive the Nougat update in May or June. Unlocked LG G4 devices in other regions may also get the update in Q3 of 2017.  Carrier locked G4 devices in the US and Canada might receive the Android Nougat update in July or August. Carrier locked LG G4 devices in Europe may start receiving the update in August 2017. 

LG V10 devices in Korea may get the update in May 2017. Unlocked V10 devices in the US and Europe may get Nougat in June 2017. Carrier locked LG V10 devices in the US and Canada might get the Nougat update in July 2017. LG V10 devices in other regions may get Android Nougat in August 2017.
