Android 6 Marshmallow Rollout for Moto G 3rd Gen
Google released Android 6.0 Marshmallow operating system on September 29th and also uploaded to AOSP on October 5th. Motorola recently released Moto G 3rd Gen smartphone with inbuilt Android 5.1.1 Lollipop OS. Motorola already confirmed that Moto G3 will receive Android 6.0 Marshmallow update. So it seems that Motorola already started working on Marshmallow update for Moto G (2015).
As Motorola already started building the update for Moto G3, it may start the soak test soon. So some selected Moto G3 users in the US and Europe may be invited for the soak test of Android 6.0 in a few days. The unlocked and Retail editions of Moto G3 in the US and Europe may get the finalised Android 6.0 update in November. Carrier editions of Moto G3 and Moto G3 editions in India and Middle East countries will receive the update by the end of this year. Some US carriers like AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon also rollout the Android Marshmallow update to Moto G3 in this fall.

Android 6.0 Marshmallow rollout for Moto G2
Moto G 2nd Gen or Moto G 2014 upgraded to Android Lollipop in last year. Some carriers rolled out the Android Lollipop update in the starting of this year too. But GPE of Moto G2 had received this update within One month from the launch of Android Lollipop by Google. Recently Motorola also has started the soak tests of Android 5.1.1 for Moto G2 in some regions in US, Europe and Middle East. In some regions the soaktest has completed successfully and the full rollout also has started. So Moto G2 Google play editions will receive Android Marshmallow in October similar to Moto G3 according to this report.
The unlocked and Retail editions of Moto G 2014 in the US and in Europe will receive the Android Marshmallow update in December as Motorola follows priority order and Moto G3 will be its top priority. The carrier editions of Moto G2 will receive the update at the beginning of 2016. Retail editions in India and Middle east countries will receive the next Android update at the beginning of 2016.

Today, Google has been announced the codename of Android M as Marshmallow and version 6.0. Google has also been released Developer Preview 3 or Final Preview of Android Marshmallow.

Update on 9/9/2015 :
Google has setup an event on September 29th at San Francisco to unveil the Android 6.0 Marshmallow operating system. The OTA rollout of Marshmallow may start for Moto G 3rd Gen in the ending of October and may spread throughout the world in November. Moto G2 may receive the Android 6 update in December or January. More details about the rollout dates of Marshmallow update to Moto G2 and Moto G3 will be revealed soon.
Update on 10/9/2015 :
According to a latest report, Android Marshmallow won’t feature dark User Interface theme in the final release. This dark theme was available in early preview of Android 6.0 but absent in later previews. Now it will be absent in final build too. But Google said that in building future updates they will consider the dark UI option. So further updates after Android 6.0 may feature the dark UI feature.
Update on 17/9/2015 :
Google updated the Google App with Now on Tap and Marshmallow UI. The app is currently available in playstore for download and requires Android 4.4+ to work perfectly. But new features of the app works only with Android Marshmallow developer preview 3 and not with earlier versions. The Now on Tap functionality improves user experience. Users can search useful information without leaving the current app with Now on Tap function. New Google app will come inbuilt with Marshmallow update and then more details about the app will be revealed. You can see the new Marshmallow launcher below.
Update on 19/9/2015 :
Google invited press for the event on September 29th to unveil the Marshmallow operating system and two new Nexus devices. It has already been confirmed that the version number of Android Marshmallow is 6.0. The event will begin at 9 A.M. Pacific time in San Francisco. Some analysts are saying that Google may unveil an update to chromecast also. So more interesting details about the Android 6.0 Marshmallow opersting system will be revealed n September 29th.
Update on 30/9/2015 :
Google unveiled the Android 6.0 Marshmallow operating system yesterday. According to some officials, the Marshmallow flavour of Android will be uploaded to AOSP on October 5th. So after October 5th, tech giants other than Google will start building the update to their flagships. According to latest news, there is no change in the expected time line of Moto G3 and G2 Marshmallow update. Motorola will start the building of update in a few days.
A new feature of Marshmallow has revealed just now. Android 6.0 Marshmallow is coming with the security patch level feature also. Users can check their phone’s security level by Going into Settings>About>Android Security Patch Level. It shows when was the last time device has received security update. Most devices may show a date of last month because, most tech giants recently started the rollout of security updates monthly due to Stage fright issue. More details about this remarkable feature will be revealed in coming days.
Update on 3/10/2015 : No Marshmallow for Moto G1 and Moto X1
At last Motorola officially announced which devices will be upgraded to Android 6.0 Marshmallow operating system. According to the officials, in the smartphones released in Moto series in 2015, only Moto X Play, Moto X Style (Pure) and Moto G 3rd Gen will be upgraded to Marshmallow. Moto E2 will not be upgraded to Marshmallow. In 2014 Moto series, Moto G 2nd Gen, Moto X2 Pure Edition (US only) and Moto X 2nd Gen will be upgraded to Android 6.0. Carrier editions of Moto X2 in the US like AT&T Moto X2 will not receive Marshmallow update. In 2013 Moto series, none of the smartphones will get Marshmallow. So Moto E 1st Gen, Moto G 1st Gen and Moto X 1st Gen won’t be upgraded to Android 6.0 Marshmallow. But in future Motorola might add Moto G 1st Gen and Moto X 1st Gen devices to Marshmallow upgrade list.
Update on 8/10/2015 :
Google uploaded the Marshmallow Source code to AOSP on October 5th. Motorola may already have started the building of Marshmallow for eligible Moto G devices. So in a few days Motorola will invite some selected Moto G3 and G2 users in some regions for the soak test of Marshmallow. In a few days full details about Marshmallow soak test will be revealed.
Update on 19/10/2015 :
According to latest reports, Motorola has started the test drive of Marshmallow for Moto X Pure Edition (2015). So it seems that in a few days Motorola is starting the soak test of Android 6.0 Marshmallow for Moto X Pure (2015). So Moto G3 and Moto G2 users may also receive invitations for the soak test of Marshmallow after Moto X Pure (2015) soak test. Full details about the soak test of Marshmallow for Moto G 3rd Gen and 2nd Gen devices will be revealed soon.
Update on 5/11/2015 :
According to Phandroid, it seems that Motorola has started the soak test of Marshmallow for Moto G 3rd Gen. An Indian Moto G3 user already received the official Android 6.0 Marshmallow update notification and also installed it. The update notification is showing that update build number as 24.11.3.en.03. The Moto G3 user who has received the Marshmallow update said that he hasn’t noticed any bugs yet. The System properties in the Settings Menu is showing that Android Security Patch level is on 1st November 2015. It is really surprising that Motorola is running soak test for Moto G 3rd Gen before Moto X Pure (2015). Motorola may also start soak tests of Android 6.0 for Moto X Pure (2015) and Moto X Play devices soon. More details about the soak tests of Marshmallow for Moto G series and Moto X series devices will be revealed soon.
Update on 22/11/2015 :
Some Moto G 2nd Gen users reported that they have received the Android 6.0 soak test notification. According to users, the update size is about 460MB. So it seems that Motorola has started the soak test of Android Marshmallow for Moto G 2nd Gen. Sources are saying that user experience has been improved considerably in this update. The About Phone in the Settings Menu is showing that the Android Security Patch level as on 1st November 2015.
According to the received users, Motorola Assists is not working on Marshmallow. But as this is a soak test only, Motorola may fix this in the final rollout. Google Now on Tap is working perfectly in the Moto G 2nd Gen devices which are running on Marshmallow. Above screenshots are showing that Motorola used stock Marshmallow UI in this update without any changes. As Motorola started the soak test just now, the full rollout of Android 6.0 for Moto G2 may begin in December only in some regions. More details about the Marshmallow rollout for Moto G 2nd Gen devices will be revealed soon. Motorola already started the soak test of Android 6.0 for some selected Moto G 3rd Gen devices according to rumours. So more details about the the update for Moto G3 also revealed soon.
Update on 2/12/2015 :
A Motorola’s Executive, David Schuster posted in Google+ that they are starting the soak test of Android 6.0 Marshmallow for Moto X Pure Edition (3rd Gen). He also said that in a few weeks, the soak test will be completed and full rollout of Android 6.0 for Moto X Pure (2015) will start. But still there is no word on the final rollout dates of Android 6.0 for Moto X Style and Moto X 2nd Gen devices which are currently under soak test in a few regions. Users are expecting that Motorola may start the full rollout of Android 6.0 for Moto X Pure (3rd Gen), Moto X Style and Moto X 2nd Gen devices by the end of this month.
So in a few days, full rollout of Marshmallow might be started for Moto G3 and G2 devices. Currently Motorola is running soak tests of Android 6.0 for Moto G 2nd Gen and Moto G 3rd Gen devices. By the end of this month, Motorola may begin the rollout for Moto G3 and G2 devices along with some Moto X series devices. Full details about the Marshmallow rollout for Moto G3 and G2 devices will be revealed in a few days.
Update on 7/12/2015 :
Google released the factory images of Android 6.0.1 update for some Nexus devices. The Official Nexus factory Images page is showing that Android 6.0.1 is now available for Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P, Nexus 6, Nexus 5, Nexus 9 and Nexus Player devices. Some users already started receiving the update through OTA also. As the OTA rollout proceeds in phases, some users may have to wait some time to download the Android 6.0.1 update. This update carries new emoji icons for Nexus devices as revealed some earlier leaks. Android 6.0.1 brings quick Camera launch for Nexus 5, 6, 7 (2013), 9 and Player devices. With this feature users can launch Camera app just by clicking the power button twice. This feature already available in the latest Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P devices. The Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow update also includes some bug fixes and minor improvements. Actually Google released Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow for Android One devices in November.
Motorola is still running soak tests of Android 6.0 Marshmallow for some Moto G devices in some regions. As the final rollout hasn’t started yet, Motorola may add Android 6.0.1 improvements and bug fixes to the final update. Previously Motorola skipped Android 5.0 Lollipop and rolled out the Android 5.0.1 and 5.0.2 updates to Moto G 2nd Gen devices in some regions. But Motorola hasn’t confirmed about Android 6.0.1 yet, we have to wait until Motorola confirmed it.
Update on 13/12/2015 :
The clock in the devices which have installed Android 6.0 is running slowly according to some users. On some Nexus devices, the clock is running slowly by about 30 mins. This time difference shows large effect on Alarms and event reminders from Calender. But Google has fixed this bug in the latest Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow update. So after updating to Android 6.0.1, the clock in the Nexus devices is running correctly. So Motorola may include this fix in the Marshmallow updates before the rollout.
Motorola has started the rollout of Android 6.0 Marshmallow to some Moto X Style devices in Europe as a part of soak test. David Schuster posted in Google+ that they have started the soak test of Marshmallow for Moto X Style in these countries : Italy, Poland, Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Finland, Romania, Greece, Slovakia, Lithuania, Estonia, Latvia, Bulgaria, Serbia, Macedonia, Croatia, Bosnia Herzegovina, Albania, Germany, Spain, Portugal, France, Belgium, Netherlands, France, UK. Actually Moto X Style is the international version Moto X Pure Edition (2015) of the US. We have already told that Moto X Pure is receiving the update in the US. Previously in India and Brazil, Motorola deployed the Marshmallow update for Moto X Style flagship.
Previously, Motorola started the soak test of Marshmallow for Moto X 2nd gen devices in Brazil. Now David also told that the soak test for Moto X 2nd Gen Retail devices has been spread to these countries : India,Germany, UK, Spain, Australia, Belgium, Denmark, Greece, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Italy, Malaysia, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Philippines, Mexico, Poland, Singapore, Sweden, France along with carrier channels of Nextel Colombia, Claro Brazil, TIM Brazil, Telcel Mexico, Oi Brazil, Claro PR, Claro Colombia. So it seems that by the end of this year, Motorola is going to rollout the Marshmallow update for Moto X Style, Moto X Play and Moto X 2nd Gen Retail editions. But still there is no word about the Android 6.0 update for Moto G2 and Moto G3 devices. Probably Motorola announces about it by the end of this month.
