Motorola Moto G6 Plus and G6 Specs, Features, Release Date and Price
Moto G6 Plus is the upcoming mid-range smart phone from Motorola. The Moto G6 Plus is the Sixth iteration in the Moto G series and the successor of Moto G5 Plus. Motorola unveiled Moto G5 Plus and G5 mid rangers in February. On 1st August, Lenovo unveiled Moto G5S and G5S Plus devices with some incremental upgrades.
Moto G6 Plus will come with the metal uni-body design just like G5S Plus and feel like premium smartphone. Motorola may build the G6 Plus and G6 devices with high-grade Aluminium. Due to this build, the devices come with great durability and also as lightweight. The upcoming mid-rangers from Motorola possibly arrive with the water resistance and dust resistance features too.
Moto G6 and G6 Plus Display and Screen
Motorola launched Moto G5 Plus and G5 devices with 5.2 inch and 5 inch screens respectively. The special editions in G5 series, Moto G5S and G5S Plus sport 5.2 inch and 5.5 inch screens respectively. The lenovo owned company designed G5S Plus to reduce bezel size much, compared to its predecessors and managed to increase the screen to body ratio to 71%. So the Moto G6 Plus smart phone may feature 5.4 inch or 5.5 inch IPS LCD display and G6 may sport 5.2 inch IPS LCD Display. Moto G6 Plus and G6 devices may feature the same 1080p or FullHD screen resolution.
Some users of Moto G5 Plus complained about the bluish tint and washed out colours of the display, so Motorola may calibrate the Display of Moto G6 Plus better to prevent these problems. The Display probably also supports wide colour gamut and the Brightness and contrast of the Display might be refined. The Corning Gorilla Glass 5 may act as the Display protection for Moto G6 Plus and G6 devices. Because of the Gorilla Glass 5, Moto G6 Plus display may offer better strength than Moto G5 Plus and G4 Plus.
Moto G6 Plus Camera
Moto G6 Plus may feature Dual 13MP Primary Camera with Dual LED flash and 8MP Secondary Camera with LED flash. The Moto G6 device may sport 16MP MP Rear Camera with LED flash and 5MP Front Camera with LED flash. Aperture size and lens will be improved in the upcoming Moto G flagships. Moto G6 Plus can shoot HDR pictures with great speed and excellent quality.
The Rear Camera of the G6 Plus will support AutoHDR, Manual exposure and also 4K video recording at 30fps features. The G6 primary camera will support only video recording at 1080p resolution. Low light performance will be improved and noise also be reduced.
Moto G6 Plus Performance
The Moto G6 Plus device may be powered by the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 chipset, according to some reliable reports. Motorola has released the Moto G5 Plus and G5S Plus devices with Snapdragon 625 SoC, so it seems that Snapdragon 630 will be the obvious choice for the G6 Plus. On May 2017, the Chipset giant announced the Snapdragon 630 SoC which is the successor of SD 625. Snapdragon 630 does boast many notable improvements over its predecessor. The chipset consists of Eight Cortex A-53 cores, Adreno 508 GPU and X12 LTE Modem.
The Eight Cortex A-53 cores are arranged in two clusters : Big and Little. The Big cluster packs Four A-53 cores clocked at 2.2 GHz and the Little cluster packs Four A-53 cores clocked at 1.8 GHz. The cores in the Little cluster handle low power processes and exclusively designed for Battery-Saving. The cores in the Big cluster are useful for power hungry processes and drain battery quickly. Since, the Snapdragon 630 chipset built on 14nm process, it is battery efficient and also much powerful.
Adreno 508 GPU
As we have noted earlier, Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 contains the Adreno 508 GPU which is about 30% more powerful than its predecessor Adreno 506, according to Qualcomm. As the Adreno 508 GPU is built on 14nm process, it is very much energy efficient. Qualcomm designed the GPU to display true to life colors and Adreno 508 also supports faster graphics rendering to decrease the game loading times. This is good news for gamers and powerusers, indeed. The Adreno 508 GPU is clocked at 650Mhz. So due to Adreno 508 GPU, Moto G6 Plus will load games faster and offer fluid gaming experience.
X12 LTE Modem
Snapdragon 630 chipset contains X12 LTE Modem to give better 4G experience for users. The X12 LTE modem supports peak download speeds up to 600 Mbps and peak upload speeds up to 150 Mbps. X12 Modem supports LTE-U, LTE FDD, LTE TDD networks and also combines LTE and Wi-Fi to give lightening fast download speeds. With X12 Modem, Moto G6 Plus Dual SIM users can keep both SIM ports in LTE Dual Standby mode. The X12 Modem also supports HD voice over LTE and even over 3G and VoWi-Fi (Voice over Wi-Fi) with LTE continuity.
Qualcomm Spectra 160 ISP
Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 SoC contains the 14-bit Spectra 160 ISP. The Spectra 160 ISP helps to capture with zero shatter log and also offers smooth zoom. The Image sensor of Snapdragon 630 supports fast autofocus too. So with Spectra 160 ISP, Moto G6 Plus users can capture pictures with true-to-life colors.
Moto G5S sports 3GB Ram while Moto G5S Plus (64GB storage) sports 4GB Ram. Since the upcoming Moto G device may come with upgraded RAM, it will do multitasking more smoothly. The user experience will be enhanced while browsing web, using Picture in Picture mode and split screen due to more amount of RAM. The user interface of Moto G6 Plus will also run much smoothly due to the fluent design of Oreo and excess RAM. The confirmed details of RAM in Moto G6 Plus are yet to be revealed. Some tech analysts say that the Moto G6 Plus may sport 4GB RAM just like its predecessor.
Moto G6 Performance
Moto G5 and G5S are powered by Snapdragon 430 chipset which is a lower mid-range SoC from Qualcomm. Moto G6 might be powered by Snapdragon 450 which is a major upgrade over its predecessors. The Snapdragon 450 SoC contains Eight Cortex A-53 cores which are clocked upto 1.8 Ghz. Due to the increased clock speed of CPU to 1.8 Ghz from 1.4 Ghz, Snapdragon 450 can do tasks quickly. Qualcomm says that there will be an improvement of 25% in performance, due to the increased clock speeds.
Because of the 14nm architecture, Snapdragon 450 offers great power efficiency. Adreno 506 and X9 LTE Modem are also present in Snapdragon 450. The chipset is the first to offer USB 3.0 support in the 400 tier. So Moto G6 users may experience lightening fast transfer speeds over USB 3.0.
Motorola launched both 32 GB and 64 GB storage variants of Moto G5 Plus with MicroSD support. So Moto G6 Plus may also come in 32GB and 64GB internal memory variants. Motorola may use UFS memory in the next mid-ranger to improve memory read and write speeds. The next Moto G contains a MicroSD slot and supports MicroSD upto 256 GB.
Moto G6 Plus may come with Non-removable 3300 mAh Li-Ion battery. It also supports Quick charge 3.0. 2900 mAh Li-Ion battery may power the Motorola G6 mid-ranger. Motorola will reveal full details about Moto G6 and G6 Plus batteries in coming days.
Quick Charge 4 Support
Snapdragon 630 has Qualcomm Quick Charge 4 support, but despite that Motorola has to enable it in the G6 Plus to keep it working. If Motorola enabled it, the users of Moto G6 Plus could enjoy the benefits of Qualcomm’s next level charging technology. With QC 4, users can get five hours of Battery life with only five minutes of charging. Moto G6 Plus can be charged up to 50% in less than 15 minutes with the Quick charge 4 support.
Qualcomm Always Aware
Always aware Hub is one of the revolutionary features, introduced by Qualcomm last year. With the Awareness API unveiled by Google with Android N Preview last year, always aware feature works to colect information from sensors. Becuase of the Hexagon DSP, the always aware feature utilizes battery juice minimally.
The Always aware hub feature arrived with the Snapdragon 820 SoC, indeed and now Snapdragon 630 also contains the feature. So like premium flagships, Moto G6 Plus will also support the internet of things (IoT) through the Always Aware feature. The exclusive feature collects data from sensors of the device about location, time, nearby and so on. The applications of Always Aware are now limited but they will be much utilized in Internet of Things (IoT) in the future.
Android 8.1 Oreo
Motorola Moto G5S and G5S mid-rangers arrived with pre-loaded Android 7.1 Nougat OS. Motorola usually loads the stock Android with minimal changes in the Moto G devices. So the Moto G6 Plus and G6 devices will run on Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box and may receive further updates upto 2 years. Recently, some developers revealed that the Android 8.1 update is the next update after the Android 8.0 update and coming soon. Android Oreo features many significant system and user interface improvements along with some new security features. The quick boot time, app launch times, Picture in Picture mode, new Notifications and wide color gamut are the some of the prime features of Android Oreo.
According to Qualcomm, Snapdragon 630 SoC comes with the Bluetooth 5.0 technology, which is a major improvement over the previous Bluetooth 4.2. Since, Moto G6 Plus is coming with Android Oreo, it will support the Bluetooth 5 feature. Bluetooth 5.0 offers four times range and double speed over its predecessor. Some testers claim that Bluetooth 5.0 can work up to 800 ft range. Bluetooth 5.0 is also built to support for IoT (Internet of Things). The 5.0 version of Bluetooth is also designed to provide better Location services and also uses lesser energy compared to its predecessor.
Improved Bluetooth Audio
Moto G6 and G6 Plus devices are coming with inbuilt Android 8.1 OS, which has Hi-Fi Bluetooth codecs. The new Bluetooth codecs are aptX, aptX HD, LDAC, AAC and SBC. Through these codecs, Bluetooth audio quality will be improved. The Android Engineering team already said in reddit AMA that Android 8 will come with many refinements of Bluetooth audio. So Moto G6 Plus mid-ranger will deliver new Bluetooth audio experience to users.
Motorola may launch Moto G6 Plus in March 2018. Pre-orders of G6 Plus probably begin in April or May. Official release dates of G6 Plus are yet to be revealed. In some regions like the U.S., the release of G6 Plus might be delayed.
Moto G6 Plus may come in two internal memory variants : 32GB and 64GB. In India, 32GB internal memory variant might come with a price tag of Rs. 12000/- and 64GB internal memory variant might come with a price tag of Rs. 14000/-. In the US, Moto G6 Plus price may start from $220. The Full price list of the upcoming mid-ranger from Motorola will be revealed in coming days.

According to Digital Trends, Moto G6 series containing three smartphones will arrive in 2018. A famous tipster, Evanleaks tweeted that along with Moto G6 Plus and G6, a third variant Moto G6 Play will also come under the next Moto G lineup.
Previously, Motorola released Moto G4 Play along with G4 lineup, but didn’t include a play variant with Moto G5 and G5S. So the Lenovo owned company is going to release a Play variant in the next Moto G series. Digital Trends say that the upcoming Moto G series will come in Early 2018. So we have to wait a few more months to get the official details of Moto G6 series.
