HTC U12 Release Date, Features, Specs and Price
The HTC U12 is the successor of U11 and the next flagship from HTC. HTC unveiled the U11 in May and U11 hit the shelves in June 2017. So the forthcoming flagship from the Taiwanese tech giant may arrive in March 2018.
With the HTC U11 flagship, HTC introduced the Edge sense feature. Now with U12, HTC is going to introduce the full Display without much bezels like Samsung’s Infinity Display, according to some rumours. HTC says that the next year’s flagship is under development, despite the recent sale of some part of R&D division to Google. Some rumours claim that after HTC U12, the Taiwanese tech giant will focus only mid-range and entry level devices. So U12 might be the last flagship from HTC.
HTC unveiled U11 with 5.5 Super LCD5 Display with 2K resolution. So the successor of HTC U11 may come with 6 inch Display with QHD+ resolution. The Display of U12 might be HDR10 ready and Dolby vision compliant. HTC may revamp the design to reduce bezel size and body size. Full details about the new display tech from HTC will be revealed in coming days. The Corning Gorilla Glass 5 may act as Display protection for U12.
HTC U12 will be powered by Snapdragon 845, the most powerful chipset, according to some reliable reports. Snapdragon 845 may come with Octa Core design and Adreno 6xx GPU. Some rumours claim that Qualcomm has already started the early production of Snapdragon 845 chipsets and Samsung reserved the first set for Galaxy S9. So it seems that Snapdragon 845 is going to power all 2018 flagship devices.
The exact specs of the successor of Snapdragon 835 haven’t revealed yet but it might be built on 10nm FinFET process. It may contain four Cortex A-75 cores and four Cortex A-53 cores. Snapdragon 845 will offer solid performance and also very battery efficient due 10nm design. According to some tipsters, the industry insiders revealed that Snapdragon 845 will be clocked at 2.5 Ghz.
Snapdragon 845 may come with Qualcomm’s latest X20 LTE modem. The X20 modem offers the support for Cat. 18 download speeds upto 1.2 Gbps and Cat. 13 upload speeds upto 150 Mbps. Due to the 10nm process, the X20 LTE modem utilizes battery juice very efficiently. The Qualcomm’s X20 modem also supports Dual SIM Dual VoLTE feature, HD, Ultra HD Voice features.
The HTC U11 flagship arrived in 4GB Ram and 6GB Ram variants. The next flagship from the Taiwanese tech giant probably come in 6GB and 8GB Ram variants. The 6GB Ram HTC U12 may contain 64GB storage and the 8GB Ram variant might be available in 128GB and 256GB storage options. Full details about the HTC 2018 flagship will be revealed in coming days.
HTC developed the ultrapixel technology to provide solid low-light performance and improve processing speeds. But in HTC 10 and its predecessors, we have seen the pictures shot with overexposure. Albeit many improvements made to the Primary Camera, the HTC U11 flagship still struggles while shooting in low-light. The Primary Camera of U11 lags while taking shots in low-light environment despite of great performance in good-light environment. So HTC has to do a good job to catch up with other tech giants in the Camera department.
Recently, Samsung unveiled ISOCell Camera Sensors with dual pixel tech and tetracell technologies and Google used single Sensor with dual Pixel tech to create in-depth effect in Google Pixel. Apple uses dual Camera sensor tech to create in-depth effect in iPhone 8 and 8 Plus flagships.
So HTC has to develop much advanced Camera tech to beat its compititors. Thus, we may see Dual Camera Sensors with ultra pixel tech and LED flash on the rear side of HTC U12. The front Camera of U12 probably feature 12MP sensor with Optical Image Stabilization and improved aperture size for better low-light performance.
Previously, HTC U11 is powered by Non-removable Li-Ion 3000 mAh battery. So this time, U12 may come with 3500 mAh Battery to power up the massive display for a long time. The Battery will support Quick Charge feature.
Quick Charge 4
The new Snapdragon 845 SoC from Qualcomm is also coming with Quick charge 4.0 capability. As HTC U12 is coming with Snapdragon 845 chipset, it will also support the Quick Charge 4.0 feature. According to the Qualcomm’s announcement regarding Quick Charge 4.0, it charges 20% faster than Quick Charge 3.0. In spite of that, Quick Charge 4.0 is 30% more power efficient than Quick Charge 3.
Quick charge 4 technology constantly monitors the battery temperature during charging. So the HTC U12 battery might be charged at 5 degrees C cooler temperatures. Its battery saver feature also ensures that Battery to remain at 80% capacity even after 500 cycles. So the next flagship from the Taiwanese tech giant will charge faster and also at cooler temperatures than its predecessor.
Android 8.1 Oreo
HTC U11 flagship arrived with the pre-loaded Android 7.1 Nougat OS. HTC usually loads the stock Android with the Sense skin and some useful apps in the U series devices. So the HTC U12 flagship will run on Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box and may receive further updates upto 2 years. Recently, some developers revealed that the Android 8.1 update is the next update after the Android 8.0 update and is coming soon. Android Oreo features many significant system and user interface improvements along with some new security features. The quick boot time, app launch times, Picture in Picture mode, new Notifications and wide color gamut are the some of the prime features of Android Oreo.
