Android O for Google Pixel Release Date and Features

Google Pixel smart phone released with inbuilt Android 7.0 Nougat and later Google updated it to Android 7.1.1 Nougat. Google Pixel got the Android 7.1.1 update in December 2016. In March, Google Pixel flagship got the Android 7.1.2 update which breaks the function of Fingerprint scanner at least some devices. The next big update for the Pixel flagship is Android O which is the Eighth major iteration of Android.

Google unveiled the First Developer preview of Android O on March 21st exclusively for developers. Further, the Second Developer preview has been unveiled on May 19th at Google I/O. The Public Beta of Android O also has been released on May 19th. The third and fourth previews of Android 8 arrived on June 9th and July 24th, respectively. According to Dave Burke, the final release of Android O will come in the late summer. Some reports also indicate that Android O will be released in Second or Third weeks of August.

Android O Refinements

Google primarily focuses on providing fluid like experiences with the Android O update. Along with the battery saving refinements, some new features like Picture in Picture mode, Notification channels and Smart text selection are also coming with the Android 8 update. But some Pixel and Nexus 5X users have reported that the fourth preview with near final system behaviours is still buggy and draining too much battery. The Android Engineering team may have fixed these problems before the final release.

The Android Engineering Team revealed during the AMA session that there will be no dark mode in the final Android 8 Build due to some technical difficulties. Android 8 operating system is coming with many upgrades regarding Bluetooth. The new Hi-Fi Bluetooth codecs coming with Android O include Qualcomm’s aptX, aptX HD, Sony’s LDAC, AAC and SBC. Along with these codecs, there are many refinements in Android O to improve Bluetooth Audio Quality.

Google Pixel Android O Rollout

Google Pixel might be the first device to get the Android 8 update. According to some reliable reports, the Pixel devices are going to receive the update in Mid-August. The rollout of Android O will proceed in stages. So by the end of this month, the rollout may spread throughout the World.

Update on 13/8/2017 :

According to 9to5Google, the Search Giant will unveil the next iteration of Android on August 21st, the day of the Solar Eclipse. Android Police’s David Ruddock tweets that Android O most likely to be released on August 21st. Google Pixel and Pixel XL flagships also may get the update on the same day.

Another tipster, Evan Blass claims that the Search giant is going to unveil the 8th major iteration of Android in the week of August 21st and most likely on 21st. At least Google will announce the Codename of Android O on August 21st, if the release not possible due to technical issues.
